First tour
Just in time for the Mount Washingtion Backcountry Ski Festival I got the Jones Stormrider - 157cm long with a swallow tail. Coolest board in the parking lot, as some might say.
The intention was to get a board for the conditions I would like to ride. True, in the North East deep fluffy powder days are rare, but that's what I'm looking for. I'm not planning on getting into mountaineering, or doing steep icy couloirs. I'm happy to be patient and wait for good deep days to get a few turns in.
The first tour I did was with a Splitboarding beginner group as part of the festival. We went up the Doublehead Trail in Jackson. It's a fairly easy trail, skinning up and riding the same trail down. We went over some basic techniques, how to skin efficiently, doing kick turns, and above all to we got some practice in skinning up the trail.
What a gorgous Spring day it was! Sunny, perfect snow and the trail was not totally mobbed by other festival participants. Can't wait for doing more trips with that board!
