Bucket list

This is the year!

I finally managed to start surfing, completing the Holy Trinity of board sports, which is a long bucket list item of mine.

East coast is mostly flat during summer, like a big lake, and in the past years timing to take some basic lessons has never worked out. Either there weren’t any waves or I my schedule wasn't open.

This summer I managed to join a few Adult Surf nights on Thursdays, get some basic lessons and tips on how to catch a wave, how to pop-up and not fall off the board immediately once you're standing.

It’s been a lot of fun!

It's been so much fun that I decided to get my own board, a nice beginner-friendly Torq 9’6” longboard, and go out a few more times towards the end of summer.

I’m not planning on doing the whole winter-surf thing here. It’s supposed to be the better surf season, more storms, with more and better waves. But my mental image of surfing just doesn’t include cold weather, hoods, boots and gloves. It's a composition of heat, sun and a nice day on the beach.

I also got a 3/2mm wetsuit. No boots though, but it should be enough to handle brisk early fall or late spring water temperatures I hope.

Right after getting out of the surf shop we made a stop at a beach nearby. No waves, and no wax on the board, but good enough to take it to the water and paddle around a little bit.

Can't wait for some waves, let’s ride!
