A week in nose slides
Every day this week I was trying to nose slide over that table, every day. On Wednesday I almost got it, but the I chickened out dismounting from the slide into the bank on the other side of the small pyramid.
However, there are a few more things I learned this week about nose slides
- It is fairly easy to get into a nose slide and slide for about 20 Centimeters. After that, it gets really hard to find a stable slide position, and slide longer than let's say 1.5 Meters. I feel like once I'm over that hump, I can slide 2 Meters or 20 Meters.
- I never achieved my goal of staying on until a full stop. My reflex is always to shift my way off the curb when I'm getting slower, or come to a stop.
- Keep your eye on the target. Not looking down on your foot, but focusing where you want to slide to helps
- Wax. Wax helps a lot to slide faster and more consistent. It makes the curb also more slippery, which can feel wobbly and be an issue
- Speed is an issue. More speed obviously helps you to slide longer, but more speed also makes it harder to get into the slide in a controlled way. More speed was a hit and miss for me
After putting a lot of wax on the curb on Wednesday, I tried to find a good balance between the amount of wax and the speed I need to get over the table. It didn't really work out. I need to become more comfortable with speed and find a better slide position, more bent knees I believe. At some point I tried to nose slide with grabs, just to get my center of gravity down.
