Last year wasn’t a great year in terms of skateboarding. I only went out a few times, even though I poured another curb and we put it in as an extension to the existing one. Upgrading our DIY curb spot with a total of 8ft long slide and grind experience. If you can hold it, that is. I’ve tried a few times, just board slides and nose slides, but I think 6ft max if I’m lucky.
Anyways, skateboarding really faded in late summer for some reason.
This year seems very different. Already went out a couple times. Still on the same board: Welcome Nora pro model shape, good ol’ Ace trucks and my squeaky 54mm OJ double duros.
Went to the curb spot a few times. Slides and crooked grinds are back and fun. I’m kind of on a mission to grind all the way through to the axle on the old Aces. But everything is so buttery and smooth right now, there’s barely any aluminum coming off any more. I’m afraid it’s going to take a while longer.
I’m itching a little bit to finally try the Lurpiv trucks that I bought now almost 18 months ago in anticipation of grinding through to the axle on these good ol’ Aces. And then I panicked and bought a set of 93A 56mm Spitfires, that are not as squeaky and might be a smoother, less rattly ride than the OJs.
My standards also came back in the small park I tend to go to, Lincoln. Short tailslides and blunt slides on the flat pyramid, ride-on grinds to tail slides on that Tacon thingy. Fun times!
Definitely have the bug more than I did last year, good to be back on wheels!
