Nantasket

First time surfing at Nantasket Beach today. The forecast on that South Shore beach was a little better than at Nahant, my regular spot.

It’s another beach break, so hit or miss - waves and swell are moving around and you’re constantly observing.

I have to give it to Surfline though, their recent forecasts on the East Coast are spot on! Same as yesterday, could time it perfectly with the tide turning and the wind dying down. The only issue getting there was parking. It was Labor Day and a gorgeous beach day. We arrived and there was no chance to park anywhere along the shore drive. So we ended up paying $40 (!!) for beach parking, partly because I really had to pee and couldn’t do another lap looking for parking that wasn’t there.

I watched the waves for a little bit before paddling out, and decided to go where nobody was sitting but a few sets were coming in nicely. Instant reward: the first wave I caught was super nice. Mellow thigh high roller, ideal for my longboard. Over time I drifted further down where all the other surfers were. Everything on that break seems to be a right, so that’s where you naturally end up, way down the beach.

Great second Labor Day weekend afternoon! Water was so nice, I got to wear the 2mm short sleeve wetsuit, my favorite one. It’s so light and feels like a second layer of skin.

Will be back at Nantasket for sure!
